VenaFluxTM Platform

The VenaFluxTM platform is the platform of choice for our pharmaceutical customers or core lab research facilities.  This  automated system provides the complete solution for microfluidic cell based assay under physiological flow.

The VenaFluxTM is the first semi-automated microfluidic platform capable of executing continuous flow cell based assays.  Together with Cellix's biochips and cell analysis software, the VenaFluxTM measures cell adhesion to antibody-coated or endothelial-cell cultured microcapillaries, producing IC50 curves under shear stress conditions mimicking physiological flow.  The VenaFluxTM is simple to use, reduces costly layers of animal model studies, and delivers specific, accurate, and reproducible results.  VenaFluxTM will give your research team everything they need to execute continuous flow cell based assays and get your drugs to market quicker.

Features:

Physiologically relevant:

When we ask our customers what it the most important feature of the VenaFluxTM platform, the response is:

“It mimics the in vivo microenvironment unlike any other in vitro assay – results are physiologically relevant and translational!”

Translational Research:

Bridges the gap between static well plate assays and in vivo animal models.  Many of our customers use the VenaFluxTM Platform in parallel with:

  • Animal models:  blood samples from mice dosed with a lead compound can be analyzed in real time.
  • Preclinical cell-based assays:Blood samples from healthy donor are treated ex vivo with lead compounds where such data can be extremely valuable at the preclinical stage and translated across to Phase I.

Robust and Reliable:

Unlike parallel plate flow chamber, perfusion chambers or glass capillaries; the robustness of the biochips and automation of the VenaFluxTM Platform enable it to be adopted as a high throughput reliable screening tool in a drug discovery programme.

Faster & Cost effective:

Because of the high throughput microfluidic element and the ability to analyze blood samples from animal models and preclinical cell-based assays; data which would normally take weeks or months to compile can be acquired in a matter of hours.

Flexible:

Suitable for use with:

  • Whole blood – this is becoming increasingly popular with all of our customers particularly as less than 0.5ml is required to conduct a high shear stress assay for the investigation of platelet adhesion.

  • Wide range of cell suspensions (T-cells, B-cells, neutrophils, eosinophils, platelets etc.).

  • Wide range of shear stresses:  0.05 to 120 dyne/cm2.

VenaFluxTM Platform includes:

  • Vena8TM Biochip Pack (10 Biochips, 8 capillaries each = 80 assays).
  • Mirus NanopumpTM
  • Microscope:  Carl Zeiss Axiovert CFL with fluorescent option.
  • Motorized stage with Z-focus.
  • Microscope Cage incubator with Temperature Control.
  • Robotic Arm and pipettor.
  • Digital Camera:  Deltapix DP 450 USB 2.0 camera.
  • Dell PC with  VenaFluxTMAssay and DucoCellTM  Analysis Software pre-installed.
