Infectious Diseases
Historically, bacteria have been the cause of some of the most deadly diseases and widespread epidemics of human civilization. Tuberculosis, typhus, plague, diphtheria, typhoid fever, cholera, dysentery and pneumonia have taken a toll on humanity. It is well appreciated that inappropriate bacteria colonisation represents a serious immunological challenge. New compounds with potential anti bacterial activity specifically designed to interfere with the ability of bacteria to adhere to inner linings e.g. gut, airway, urinary tract and the conjunctiva are constantly under development.
