Stemming from a collaborative partnership between the Department of Physics and Clinical Medicine in Trinity College, Dublin, Cellix was established in 2004 by co-founders Vivienne Williams, Dmitry Kashanin and Frank O'Dowd. Qualified with an M.Sc. in Physics from Trinity College Dublin, Vivienne and Dmitry saw an opportunity to develop an integrated cell based assay solution for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
In 2006, the company was formally established with a head office in Dublin. Vivienne joined as the CEO and first employee in March of that year with Dmitry and Frank joining as CTO and Design Engineer respectively in November.
In the two and a half years since launch, the Cellix team has now grown to eight full time employees, including a New York based team and a network of distributors in the UK, Scandinavia, Austria, Germany, Italy, Singapore, China, Taiwan, Japan and Korea. For Cellix, working with existing customers to further develop the product is central to staying ahead in this competitive environment. In January 2008, the first semi-automated platform was launched in response to customer demand and an additional biochip, the VenaECTMwas added to the range the following April. In September 2010 two new biochips were launched at the 9th World Congress for Microcirculation; the Vena8 Fluoro+TM and Vena8 Endothelial+TM.
