Integrins are protein receptors that connect the extracellular environment with intracellular signaling events in a cell. Integrins are important for normal development and function, but are also involved in the pathogenesis of diseases including cancer, autoimmunity, rheumatoid arthritis, crohn's disease and heart disease. It is important to understand the normal adhesion profiles of leukocytes so as to identify their role in disease states.
